Polling Day

November 4, 2008

Its polling day in the US today with a huge turnout expected. Some analysts are predicting the biggest ever voter turnout for a Presidential election with a total of 130 million votes expected. Twenty million votes have already been cast in early voting and long queues have been seen outside many polling stations across the country. Barack Obama is red hot favourite to win with all the polls showing him in the lead and also having outspent his opponent John McCain by $470 million to $262 million. There’ll be blanket coverage of results night on all major news channels but if you want to keep up to date on line then Iain Dale is hosting a live webchat from 11.00pm which you can follow here.

PS. Barack Obama’s grandmother died of cancer last night. He must be experiencing a roller coaster of emotions with, on the one hand the expectancy and personal joy of becoming the President at the end of a gruelling 21 month campaign and the sadness of a huge personal loss on the other.
